On 7th and 8th October, the ThermoSI consortium met at Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, PTB in Berlin for our M24 annual review meeting.

During the meeting, the partners presented their contributions and recent progress across the four work packages:
🔹 WP1: Thermal imaging
🔹 WP2: Johnson Noise Thermometry
🔹 WP3: Phosphor thermometry to 1250 °C
🔹 WP4: Artificial intelligence for thermometry

This meeting was a key opportunity to bring together expertise from across the consortium, exchange ideas and further strengthen collaboration.

The consortium also visited the PTB labs involved in the project, with impressive facilities for emissivity measurement, detector radiometry and radiation thermometry, electronic sensor circuits and detectors (JNT), and noble metal thermocouple fabrication and calibration.

Ingmar then took us to a memorable tour around the wider PTB site, sharing the history of the institute: its creation as the PTR, a joint initiative of industrialist Werner von Siemens and physicist Hermann von Helmholtz, and the story of how Max Planck formulated his radiation law in 1900 using data from the institute. We also saw BMSR-2, one of the most magnetically shielded rooms on Earth.

A big thank you to Ingmar, Christian, Albert and the whole PTB team for hosting such a well-organised and inspiring event.

Our final meeting, along with an industrial workshop, will be held in June 2027 at AFRC in Glasgow, Scotland. More details to follow in the coming weeks.
